Visuals: Almost the same as the 1968 Walt Disney Productions warning, except it is on the same navy blue background as the 1979 Paramount Home Video logo, it fades to the following text, in white Helvetica font:

Trivia: On the 1981 stereo release of Apocalypse Now, this is actually considered part of the feature for some reason.

Variants:

  • An early variant exists where the text is smaller, is in Bauhaus, has some correct punctuation, and is yellow instead of white.
  • A black and white version of both variants exists on B&W releases such as The Elephant Man, Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back, Hamlet, Wings, and A Night to Remember. Here, the background stays a solid gray shade, with it being darker on the early variant and lighter on the later variant.
  • A Japanese version exists. Here, the text has black outlines.
  • On Star Trek: The Animated Series VHS tapes, the color-changing background is gradient, and it displays the following text in white, and in a Times New Roman font:

  • It can be seen on all releases from the era, including Tucker: The Man and His Dream, U2: Rattle and Hum, Top Gun, Children of a Lesser God, The Blue Iguana, Beverly Hills Cop II, and The Accused (the final release to have it).
  • The early variant can be seen on 1980-1985 tapes and Laserdiscs with this warning, such as One-Eyed Jacks, Downhill Racer, Meatballs, Gallagher: The Maddest, some pre-1989 releases of Grease, The Hunter, and Star Trek videos.
  • It was still used on some reprints after its end date (even as late as 2002), such as Death Wish, Toho's The Wizard of Oz, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (featuring the B&W version), and The Bridges at Toko-Ri.
  • The first version makes a surprise appearance on a 1988 Canadian VHS of Plaza Suite, which is most likely a reprint.
  • The Japanese version was found on a Japanese VHS of Roman Holiday.

1984–Late 1980s (Canadian French)

Visuals: On a teal background, there is the yellow French-Canadian warning text, after which it cuts to the name of the movie.

Visuals: On a white background, we see blue copyright stamp on top and the blue warning text on the bottom, the same from the previous warnings, all in Cooper Black font.

Trivia:

  • When the DVD variant was debuted, most of its appearances were at the start of discs. Starting in 2005-06 on mainline Paramount discs with "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortante Events", it was moved to the end on newer movies, although it still appeared at the front on releases from the company's other speciality labels, as well as new editions of older films from 2005-2009 such as Witness, Clueless, Braveheart, Hearts of Darkness: A Filmaker's Apocalypse, Gallipoli, Airplane!, The Truman Show, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany's Ghost, and Coming to America, but starting with the 2007 DVD releases of Saturday Night Fever and Face/OIf, as well as Paramount's Centennial Collection line, the warning is shifted to the very end (mainly on DVD; most Blu-rays of catalog titles in the U.S. used to feature it at the end and international releases have it at the beginning, but starting with Daddy's Home 2 in 2018, it was put before the main menu (By 2019 or 2020, this was on almost all releases), due to different language options being present on them). Besides those, only the bonus features discs on some Blu-rays have it at the front. During the original 1998-2002 DVD version's run, it appeared at the end of the following titles: The Virgin Suicicdes, the original release of Apocalypse Now, the original release of Titanic, Tucker: The Man and His Dream, Blue's Clues: Blue's Big Musical Movie, Mission: Impossible II, The Conversation, Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Apocalypse Now Redux, Zoolander, Vanilla Sky, and The Godfather DVD Collection (although four of them used a variation of this particular version; see "Variants" for more on it). Prior to 2005-2006, only a handful of releases (the original 2002-2004 releases of Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Star Trek II, III, and VI, and Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures) had the later version at the end. It does however, return at the beginning of some newer DVDs and Blu-rays, as well as some Ultra HD Blu-rays starting in 2018 with more languages apart from English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish (should you select them), such as Sherlock Gnomes, Bumblebee, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Sonic the Hedgehog, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, A Quiet Place Part II and Paw Patrol: The Movie, but this doesn't appear on the 2007 DVD of The Rainmaker, or on some season boxsets of Cheers as they use the 2nd British warning screen instead, this was because some people think the British warning is more appealing, mostly because of the background design of Paramount's print logos reflecting the VHS tapes counterpart version.
  • On the 2006 DVD of Mission: Impossible II, the 1998 DVD version appears on the first disc due to it being a reprint of the original 2000 release, while disc 2 uses the 2002 DVD version.

Variants:

  • Later in 1989 for the Paramount Communications variant, the wallpaper's color was changed to a dark blue gradient, and the Paramountains are smaller (with five mountains in the middle row rather than three). At the same time, a shadow effect was applied to the text, while still keeping the ITC Korinna font. The first period also returned.
  • On some S-VHS releases (such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Top Gun), a mixed-case Foundation Sans Light font is used. Not all S-VHS releases used this variant, however (such as Ghost) - they instead used the regular variant.
  • Black-and-white versions of the first two warnings exist on the 1989-1990 VHS releases of Sunset Boulevard, The Desperate Hours, The Delicate Delinquent, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
  • The font of the text was changed to ITC Benguiat Medium for the Viacom variant in 1995, and each full sentence is spaced apart a bit.
    • On tapes with the 90th Anniversary "Feature Presentation" ID, the background was changed to a solid navy blue color.
      • On some prints of Changing Lanes, after the FP ID, it cuts to the standard warning screen instead. This has reported to have been due to a manufacturing error, as the earliest prints use the normal version.
      • A rare variant of this with the scrolling demo message (explained below) was spotted on 90th Anniversary demo tapes such as those of Hey Arnold!: The Movie and SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom Bash!
  • Normally, the warning would stay on-screen for about 20 seconds, then fade out. However, on the 1990 VHS release of White Christmas (as well as reprints up to as late as 2001), it stays on-screen for only 5 seconds before abruptly cutting to black.
  • On the 1992 releases of How Can I Tell If I'm Really in Love?: Classroom Edition and Time Out: The Truth About HIV, AIDS, and You, different warning text scrolls up.
  • A rare variant exists on promotional tapes that asks the viewer to call a certain telephone number and to help prevent video piracy, while also telling them that the VHS is not for resale. The text also scrolls upward.
    • On 1992-1995 screeners, such as Dollman vs. Demonic Toys, Blue Chips, Hostage, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Dragonworld, and Arcade, the text is in a different font and the top text says "This videocassette is a promotional copy and shall forever remain the property of Paramount Pictures Corporation." In some cases, such as the latter two, it comes in slightly late and fades in on the first line.
    • On the 1995 rental promo Braveheart: A Filmmaker's Dream, the above text is used on the Viacom variant, but doesn't scroll upward and the piracy hotline information is absent. It also tells the viewer that the tape is only available as a free rental.
    • On Boomerang, the warning cuts in just as it begins scrolling.
    • The easiest way to spot a tape with this is to find a Paramount VHS cover with a blue sticker (or red if it's from Canada) telling them that it is a promotional copy, and that the tape has a simple-looking white label that also says it.
    • The first screener to have it was Necessary Roughness; most screeners from before then with the ident, such as Funny About Love and Subspecies, instead use the standard warning.
    • Surprisingly, the demo tapes of Nobody's Fool and Meat Loaf: To Hell and Back feature the standard warning instead of this one (though on the former, the demo variant does play after it).
  • An incredibly rare variant exists mainly on awards consideration tapes that tells the viewer that the tape is loaned for personal review. This was seen on the screener tape of Alfie (2004).
    • An earlier version of this warning exists that is cut to from the Feature Presentation ID instead of fading in and has differently-arranged warning text. This version was spotted on the screener tapes of Rules of Engagement and Shaft.
    • While its unknown if a 90th Anniversary variant of this warning exists on VHS, it has been reported to appear in the screener DVD of Changing Lanes.
  • A Canadian version exists, with the word "WARNING" in red, underlined in white, along with modified warning text. Tapes from 1989-1995 use a sans-serif font.
    • A French-Canadian variant of the aforementioned version exists. This can be seen on most French-Canadian Paramount VHS releases after Malofilm Video ceased distribution of Paramount titles in the language.
    • A very rare variant can be found on a 1995 French Canadian VHS of The Ten Commandments (1956). However, unlike other variants, the warning screen's background is a still image of the beginning of the Feature Presentation ID. The text also scrolls up.
  • On some PBS tapes released by Paramount, the background is completely black. A Canadian version exists as well.
  • Chuck E. Cheese's releases feature the warning on a purple gradient background, with the text in a similar bolder font without the shadow.
  • A rare variant exists where the warning screen just fades or cuts in from black. This appears on the VHS of Titanic (Cassette #1), the 1991 VHS releases of the Indiana Jones trilogy, the 1989 VHS of Greg Norman: The Complete Golfer Part II: The Short Game, the 1989 VHS of The Shootist, some Star Trek: The Animated Series tapes, the 1991 Laserdisc of Apocalypse Now, the 1989 Laserdisc of The Naked Gun, some PBS Kids VHS releases distributed by Paramount such as Boohbah: Comfy Armchair and Boohbah: Snowman (though the promotional versions of both titles include the "Feature Presentation" ID), an alternate VHS print of The Truman Show, the French Canadian release of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and cassettes of Paramount Television shows released through Columbia House. Almost all of these releases do not feature the "Feature Presentation" ID.
    • On the 1989 VHS of Will Penny and the 1997 re-releases of The Godfather trilogy, the order of the warning screen and "Feature Presentation" ID are instead swapped.
  • Before pay-per-view showings of Paramount movies, this warning screen was used, except using different text.
  • Impact Productions releases have the text in a different font and their respective logos on the background.
  • On 1998-2002 DVDs, the wallpaper would be in a light/dark gray gradient, and would have the following text instead:

    A French-language screen usually follows it, and The Ghost and the Darkness, Breakdown, The Rugrats Movie, and the original release of Titanic even feature a Spanish-language screen.
    • A special variant of this exists on Star Trek: The Original Series - Volume 4, The Ghost and the Darkness, The Rugrats Movie, 5 Card Stud (all of which feature it at the front), the original releases of Titanic and The Conversation, Apocalypse Now Redux, and The Godfather DVD Collection, in which the warning fades in and out.
      • Most of them feature the English-language screen crossfading to French and Spanish-language screens, while the Star Trek volume and Apocalypse Now Redux just have the English-language screen, and on The Conversation, The Godfather DVD Collection, and 5 Card Stud, it only crossfades to the French screen.
      • On Apocalypse Now Redux and The Godfather DVD Collection, this variant appears on the same files as the actual movies, but rewinding and fast-forwarding are disabled there as opposed to during the features themselves.
    • A fullscreen version can be found on early releases with this warning, such as The Ghost and the Darkness, 48 Hrs., the original releases of Titanic and The Hunt for Red October, Jade, Shane, Peanuts Holiday Collection, When Worlds Collide, and the season boxsets of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-94).
  • Starting in 2002, the DVD version background has been changed to solid purple, resembling its 90th Anniversary VHS counterpart more, this was also seen on ALL PBS VHS releases from Paramount, but DO NOT EVER expect the opening previews, the 1999-2005 Stay Tuned/And now screens, the Feature Presentation/Warning Screen or the Paramount logo to appear on the PBS tapes (unlike Warner Bros., because Paramount only merely distrubuted them). On many TV releases, the warning is in fullscreen and the background is in an eggplant color. On Blu-rays and some Comedy Central DVDs, the drop shadow is replaced with a black outline of the text.
    • A fullscreen version of the Blu-ray variant exists. It can be found one the 2009 DVD releases of Reno 911: The Complete Sixth Season and Important Things with Demetria Martin: Season One, as well as the 2010 DVD release of South Park: The Complete Thirteenth Season.
    • On the 2008 Legend Films DVD of The Skull and Girl on The Bridge, the widescreen variant is squished, with added bars on the left and right sides.
  • Sometimes, the text is spaced. This can be found on most widescreen DVDs.
    • French and Spanish versions exist, but only if you set the language on the DVD player to French or Spanish. On the latter, it follows the English warning.
  • On CBS DVD and Blu-ray releases since 2007, a variant exists where the warning text is upon a black background, though the text is either in Helvetica (on releases such as Mannix: The First Season) or ITC Korinna (on the Blu-rays of all three seasons of Star Trek: The Original Series).
    • The 2012-2014 Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-rays have a variant of this, using the font on the show's LCARS computer displays.
  • On the 2007 VHS of The Hidden Child (one of the last titles from PBS on the format before it went discontinued in June 29, 2007), the DVD variant is used, but the background is light gray and the text font is slightly different.
  • On seasons 3-5 of South Park and seasons 1 & 2 of The Ren & Stimpy Show, the warning fades out.
  • On seasons 9-12 of South Park, the warning has a reddish tint to it.
  • On all three volumes of Beavis and Butt-head: The Mike Judge Collection (both DVD and UMD Video versions), Police Squad: The Complete Series, the first and second volumes of The Animation Show, and Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection, the warning fades in and cuts out. It also appears slightly squeezed.
  • On most UMDs, as well as the 2003 DVDs of Bang the Drum Slowly, Fear Strikes Out, and Talent for the Game, the warning fades in and out.
  • On current DVDs, the text is in Helvetica font, is lowercased, and "DVD" replaces "VIDEO DEVICE."
  • Impact Prodoductions tapes feature the warning with their logo on the background, is it because Impact Productions was owned by Paramount at the time or not

Audio: None, outside of the fade out of the Paramount fanfare on most VHS/Betamax releases (a few have the fanfare cut off before it ends, and the screener VHS of Subspecies has a silent version of the Feature Presentation bumper).

Audio Variants: On Descriptive Video Service tapes, a DVS narrator says the on-screen warning text. Usually, it starts with "Words appear", but there are exceptions:

  • On Top Gun, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Ghost, Wendie Sakakeeny goes right into the warning text.
  • Several tapes precede the text with "A warning appears": Rena Baskin on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and The Ten Commandments, Nick Mills on El Dorado, and Peter Haydu on Clear and Present Danger.

Availability: Extremely common. Appears on all Paramount releases since 1989.

  • The original variant is the toughest find, but can be found on releases with the Gulf+Western version of the era's FP bumper, such as Coming to America (on which it and the Coming Attractions and FP bumpers debuted) and The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
  • The later variants are easier to find, and can be found on releases such as A Charlie Brown Christmas, Congo, The Real Macaw, Jade, Blue Chips, Wayne's World, Ghost, most Nickelodeon releases (the exceptions have the 90th Anniversary variant), Forrest Gump, Faeries, Dragonworld, Without a Paddle, The First Wives Club, D.A.R.Y.L., Braveheart, Good Burger, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, Clockstoppers, and Team America: World Police, among others.
  • On CBS releases, it appears on Family Ties, Wings, Friday the 13th: The Series, The Fugitive, and seasons 1-3 of Cannon.
  • The DVD version also appears on Paramount co-releases with Legend Films, such as Rhubarb and The Skull, and Samuel Goldwyn Films releases such as Sweet Country.
  • The Canadian Paramount Communications version was surprisingly retained on a 2005 U.S. VHS reissue of Elephant Walk.
  • On the 2018-present Universal reprints of the DreamWorks Animation films that Paramount distributed, the DVD and Blu-ray versions are surprisingly retained, due to using the original Paramount masters (as Universal was unable to create new masters for those reprints).

Editor's Note: The Gulf+Western and S-VHS variants have the same text layout as the later variant of the previous warning, which lacked some punctuation. When the second variant debuted, only the first period returned. The purple background variant is very ugly, as it looks homemade. Also, there are two grammatical errors in the DVD/Blu-ray warning; "CONTENTS" shouldn't be plural, and there should be a comma and "and" between the first two sentences, therefore rendering the text as "This video device is licensed for private home viewing only, and any distribution outside…"

September 19, 2000-April 24, 2001

Visuals: Same as the 1998 EMI Music Group warning, except it was followed by a Spanish translation.

Visuals: Same as any other generic FBI Anti-Piracy warning screens, on a black background, with FBI Anti-Piracy Warning seal and Homeland Security Investigation badge on the first screen and Intellectual Property Rights on the second screen.

Availability: Current. Seen on Paramount DVDs, Blu-rays and UHDs starting in 2013 in tandem with the 5th warning. The first screen appears just after pressing the "Play" button and starting the movie for the first time, while the second screen appears at the end.

  • Starting in mid-2020, the background is light blue. It was also seen on 2006-2009 DreamWorks Home Entertainment and 2006-2013 DreamWorks Animation UK DVDs distributed by Paramount.
  • As of 2022/23, this warning screen is now used on Paramount DVDs in North America.

Trivia: The background is similar to that of the Viacom version of the warning screen used in Anglo-America.

  • The warning with the light blue background does make a few unexpected appearances on a few DVDs released in the U.S. at the end, such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, A Quiet Place Part II, and Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. However, in some DVDs which have the language selection menu, pressing any language excluding English will show this warning screen, taking place of Paramount's signature warning screen (not the warning screen that appears after the DVD menu).
  • Starting with Clifford the Big Red Dog, this warning appears at the beginning.
  • Some UK DVDs, such as Mission: Impossible II, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and The Adventures of Indiana Jones, feature this warning at the end instead.
  • ICAA rating was removed in spain in late 2007.

Editor's Note: The end-of-release warning has "oil rigs" typed as "oilrigs," and like with the CIC Video, Aries Video and HBO Home Video warnings, the word "editing" is featured.

Warning: The 1986-2003 Paramount Pictures logo animates from the point where the stars are halfway encircling the mountain, and after the byline fades in, it backs away, revealing itself inside a film projector. A filmstrip appears with the word "WARNING" scrolling on it and it moves very much similar to a videotape in a VCR. there are several shots, in sync with the music. We then see one more shot close up to the filmstrip that lasts for the rest of the warning. This same warning text from the previous warning then appears at the bottom in an ITC Coundit font:
