Bumper: On a lavender/dark purple gradient background with a slanted MCA/Universal Home Video logo, we see the words "Also Available From MCA/Universal Home Video."

Variants: Text in a different font.

  • A light blue/dark blue gradient background variant also exists, and like the previous variant, uses a different font.
  • On the 1992 VHS of Jungle Fever, the background is a yellow-pink gradient, and the text instead reads "Look for these two Spike Lee films". Underneath the text says "Now Only $19.95 Each Suggested Retail".
  • On the 1992 VHS of The People Under the Stairs, the background is a gray gradient, the font is slightly thinner, and "Available From" has no capitalization. The background also fades in before the text does.
  • On the 1992 VHS releases of Mobsters and Shout, the above variant is used, but the font is even thinner.
  • On the 1992 VHS of Fried Green Tomatoes, the background is darker and the font is different.
  • On the 1992-93 VHS releases of Housesitter, Death Becomes Her, Raising Cain, Sneakers, The Public Eye, Dr. Giggles, Scent of a Woman, Trespass, Matinee, Mad Dog and Glory, Splitting Heirs and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, the background appears to be solid purple and the text is in the same font as on the light blue/dark blue variant.
  • On the 1993 VHS of Lorenzo's Oil, the text is on a solid blue/purple gradient background without the MCA/Universal Home Video logo.
  • On the 1994 VHS of Beethoven's 2nd, the text is on a solid dark purple gradient background without the MCA/Universal Home Video logo and in yet another different font.

Universal DVD

Bumper: A series of clips from various Universal Studios-owned films plays. Between clips, the animation of the 1997 Universal Studios logo is seen. The logo then finishes as normal, only the globe rises up and the DVD logo fades in underneath.

Trivia: This bumper is also a logo that was used as an advertisement for Universal Studios Home Video DVD releases. However, in this version the titles of various films are shown to promote their releases.

Variants:

  • The clips in the Universal sequence may differ depending on the country, year or brief period of time that the DVD was released in.
  • On 2001 releases in the Alfred Hitchcock Collection, such as Rear Window, the footage is replaced with clips from Hitchcock's Universal-controlled movies, and at the end of the logo, a yellow light shines through.

FX/SFX: The flashes between the film clips and the Universal Studios logo and the fading in of the DVD logo.

Music/Sounds: A sample from "Ecosystem" by John Pratt and Michael Alemania.

Availability: Can be seen on Universal DVDs from the era, right before the movie. Some examples include The Little Rascals, Major Payne, Babe: Pig in the City, Winning, The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire, The Hurricane, Erin Brockovich, Josie and the Pussycats, and the Collector's Editions of the Jurassic Park trilogy, National Lampoon's Animal House, 1941, Street Fighter, and other releases from the era. It was last seen on Slap Shot: 25th Anniversary Edition. Strangely, this doesn't appear on the 1998-2001 DVDs of The Blues Brothers, Jaws, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

August 8, 2000-February 26, 2002[]

Bumper: On a blue spotlight background is one of the following clip-ons in a greenish Copperplate Gothic Bold font:

  • NOW AVAILABLE ON VIDEO AND DVD

FX/SFX: Usually a fade-in and fade-out, but on The Family Man (Special Edition release only), American Pie 2, and Balto II: Wolf Quest, it cuts in and out.

Music/Sounds: None usually, though when the "COMING TO VIDEO AND DVD" variant appeared at the end of a trailer for Bring It On on the 2000 VHS of Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, the end of the trailer music was heard over it.

Availability: Same as the previous bumper. This premiered and debuted on DragonHeart: A New Beginning and last appeared on The Musketeer.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

The bumper debuted (in its early version) on Mommy & Me: "Playgroup Favorites" and "More Playgroup Favorites", and was last seen (in its standard version) on Repo Men. 2002–2012[]

Bumper: On a space background:

  • Cinema Releases/Unmissable Movies: We see a flash appearing in the center. As it brightens, it reveals either: "COMING SOON TO CINEMAS" or "IN CINEMAS NOW". On DVDs from 2010-2012, the words "UNMISSABLE MOVIES ON [DVD logo] AND [Blu-ray Disc logo]" zoom in slowly. The flash dims as the text zooms in slightly before it suddenly flies off towards the camera.
  • Rent/Own it Now on Video and DVD: We see the text reading either "RENT IT NOW ON VIDEO AND [DVD logo]" or "OWN IT NOW ON VIDEO AND [DVD logo]". Light rays shine on the text from the bottom, again on the top, and around the text.
  • Coming Soon to Own/Rent on Video and DVD: We see a bright flash in the middle of the screen. The words, "COMING SOON" slowly emerge from the flash, before quickly zooming in, leaving the screen. One of the following captions, "TO RENT ON VIDEO AND [DVD logo]" or "TO OWN ON VIDEO AND [DVD logo]" fades in from behind it, before zooming in extremely fast, leaving just the space background.

Variants:

  • The space background from "Coming Soon to Own/Rent on Video and DVD" bumper is sometimes brighter.
  • A true 16:9 widescreen version exists, revealing more of the space background, sometimes with black bars at the top and bottom.

FX/SFX:

  • For Cinema Releases/Unmissable Movies, the flash and the text.
  • For Rent/Own it Now on Video and DVD, the light rays.
  • For Coming Soon to Rent/Own on Video and DVD, the flash, the text fading in, and zooming in extremely fast.

Music/Sounds:

  • For Cinema Releases/Unmissable Movies, a very low synth fanfare for the flash, and then a whoosh sound, followed by another slightly fast paced low synth fanfare before another whoosh sound occurs.
  • For Rent/Own it Now on Video and DVD, a drum hit, followed by a low fanfare with a shining sound, sometimes with the echo at the end.
  • For Coming Soon to Rent/Own on Video and DVD, at first, we hear an eerie muffled explosion from the flash with a few whooshes, then a louder one when "COMING SOON" zooms in. When one of the above captions appears, a low pulsing hum can be heard, before we hear the same whoosh when "COMING SOON" zoomed in, when one of the captions zoomed in.

  • COMING SOON TO CINEMAS
  • UNMISSABLE ON BLU-RAY AND DVD

FX/SFX: The ID zooming out and slowly rotating, combined with that of the Universal logo and the blue streak moving, which rotate/move in a different direction, based on the ID.

Music/Sounds: A high-pitched synth whoosh, combined with a brief cymbal crash as it slightly increases pitch before resuming as normal.

Availability: Common, appearing on most British Universal DVDs and Blu-rays from the era, such as The Lorax, Snow White and the Huntsman, Ted, The World's End, and Despicable Me 2, among others.
